"Iceland is a small and neutral country, although it is a member of NATO, nevertheless it does not stand aside from violations of international law and provides humanitarian aid to Ukraine," stressed the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk during a working meeting with the First Deputy Speaker of the Alting (Parliament of Iceland)  Oddny Har?ardottir.

On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and on her own behalf, the Deputy Speaker thanked Mrs.Oddny Har?ardottir, as one of the heads of the Alting, for participating in the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform in Zagreb.
"Indeed, it is a pleasure to note that the partnership between Ukraine and Iceland is based on a common commitment to the protection of democracy and the world order, based on respect for international law, territorial integrity, human rights and freedoms," emphasized Olena Kondratiuk.

She noted that Iceland supports Ukrainian resolutions at the UN and all EU sanctions packages against the russian federation.

"I am convinced that the entire civilized and democratic world must today also recognize the terrorist nature of russian aggression against Ukraine.  Using this opportunity, I appeal to the Icelandic Parliament to officially recognize russia as a terrorist state.  This status will make it possible to significantly strengthen sanctions against the russian federation and weaken its military potential," Olena Kondratiuk emphasized during the meeting.

The parties also noted the great and sincere support of the Ukrainian people, which is provided by the women of Iceland.  "The telling fact is that Icelandic women knitted and donated thousands of pairs of socks for the needs of the Ukrainian military," Olena Kondratiuk expressed gratitude to Iceland for the aid.

At the same time, she noted that "it is not only this that determines the help that this country gives us": "We are extremely grateful to the Government of Iceland for allocating a grant of over 230 thousand Euros for the producing and sending to Ukraine prostheses for military and civilian victims of the war."

For her part, Alting First Deputy Speaker Oddny Har?ardottir emphasized that Iceland will continue to support Ukraine: both at the international level and in providing humanitarian aid.
