«Despite the statements of some political forces, the draft Law on Media was adopted as a basis.

The Parliament voted this document, which is necessary for the European integration intentions of Ukraine, as a basis.»

Ruslan Stefanchuk stated this after the end of the plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

He added: «I emphasize! It is a European integration bill.»

«The EU Representation in Ukraine welcomed the intention of the Parliament to adopt the act. Office of the Council of Europe in Ukraine also supported the document.» Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine named the main provisions of the Law on Media:

- consolidated provisions on the ownership structure and financial transparency in the media sphere

- fixed state language quotas in the field of audiovisual media;

- finalized the issue of community broadcasting regulation;

- specifying the grounds for granting the right to answer or refute information following the recommendations of the experts of the Council of Europe;

- finalized procedure for control and supervision in the field of media;

- strengthened the authority of the regulator in terms of imposing sanctions on entities in the media sphere.
