Ruslan Stefanchuk: Guatemala supported all important UN resolutions condemning the russian invasion of Ukraine

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held a working meeting with the President of the Republic of Guatemala Alejandro Giammattei.

They discussed, in particular, the prospects for developing interparliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Guatemala.

"Guatemala supported all important UN resolutions condemning russia's invasion of Ukraine. I thank you for this unshakable position," the Chairman of the Parliament expressed his gratitude.

The Speaker of the Parliament also thanked for the consistent implementation of sanctions against the russian federation: "We hope that this sanctions pressure will only be maintained because it is crucial for us that russia is not economically able to finance this war so that victory will come sooner."

At the same time, Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that russia hates Ukrainians as a nation: "The aggressor cannot come to terms with Ukrainian statehood, with our independence and insubordination."

"Mass murders of civilians, torture, shelling of civilian infrastructure, blockade of populated areas are all crimes committed by an aggressor on our land," emphasized the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calling on the Parliament of Guatemala to recognize russia's actions as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

"I would like you, at the level of the Parliament and the Government, to consider the possibility of adopting two important decisions for Ukraine: the first is the issue of recognizing russia as a terrorist country, and the second is the recognition of what is happening in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people," addressed meeting participants Ruslan Stefanchuk.

For his part, the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, emphasized: "We really want to help Ukraine, in connection with which we are preparing a unit with a humanitarian mission."

"This year, we are celebrating 30 years since the establishment of our diplomatic relations. We express our desire to develop these relations for the sake of the welfare of both sides. We are ready to act as your mouthpiece in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean so that, despite the fact that some representatives of the russian federation carry out propaganda, the world knows the truth."
