Ruslan Stefanchuk: It is important that the USA recognizes russia as a state sponsor of terrorism

"The status of a state sponsor of terrorism is enshrined in the legislation of the United States of America, so it is important that the United States itself recognizes russia as such," stressed the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine noted that the sooner the USA adopts this status for the russian federation, "the closer we will be to our joint victory."

Ruslan Stefanchuk reminded that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the House of Representatives and the Senate of the US Congress on May 3 to recognize russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

"This was preceded by our communication with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. It was in this way that Ukraine gave its approval from the side of the Parliament for such a decision to be adopted. I know that it is supported at other levels as well," he noted, adding that Nancy Pelosi stated that "they are ready individually, that is, at the level of Congress, to introduce such a status regarding russia."

"This decision is important not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole world in general, because a country that has received such a status becomes finally an exile - no one has anything to do with it anymore, because it is understood that all agreements contribute to the highest evil, which is terrorism," stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk.

In addition, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine drew attention to the fact that "terrorist state" and "state-sponsor of terrorism" are legally two different statuses: "Sponsor of terrorism is a specific legal category, and there are very few states with this status in the world. Therefore, the recognition of russia as a state-sponsor of terrorism imposes on it the maximum number of prohibitions and restrictions in the world, because it is recognized that this state finances terrorism with its own funds as a phenomenon in the world, which is embodied by the armed forces, which are, in fact, terrorists."
