During his working visit to the Republic of Malta, First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Angelo Farrugia.

"As in any parliament, you have different parties, but you all unite around supporting Ukraine – this is very valuable for us. This is exactly the moment when our country needs earnest support," Oleksandr Korniyenko stressed.

He also expressed gratitude for the support of territorial integrity and solidarity with Ukraine in the fight against russian aggression.

In addition, the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament focused on two areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Malta.

First of all, it concerns the deepening of the inter-parliamentary dialogue, namely: the creation of a joint commission or group consisting of parliamentarians of both countries:
"We have relevant "friendship" groups with parliamentarians from different countries. We plan to staff a joint group of two parliaments at once so that it works more efficiently.”

Oleksandr Korniyenko noted that the strategy of preparing the seventh package of sanctions against russia was to take into account the "loopholes" through which russia manages to circumvent the imposed restrictions and monitor compliance with them – adding that it includes the activities of banks, blocking the services of communications providers and suspending the broadcast of russian channels, the entry of russian ships under the flags of EU countries into russian ports, and dependence on russian energy.

As the food crisis threatens the world, the issue of unblocking Ukrainian ports was raised during the meeting.

"It's not just a matter of accompaniment or exports. It can also be negotiations and political processes. putin is not unblocking our ports because it is part of his economic war,” – explained the First Deputy Chairman of Parliament.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Angelo Farrugia, assured that the Republic of Malta supports the sanctions policy against russia and Ukraine's European integration aspirations.

Also, during the working meeting, Oleksandr Korniyenko visited the building of the unicameral Parliament of Malta and presented Angelo Farrugia with a child's creative work created during the All-Ukrainian flashmob from the Educational Center of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "Children of Ukraine for Peace."

Finally, the First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniyenko, invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta, Angelo Farruggia, to pay a working visit to Ukraine.
