Giving Ukraine candidate status is an act of recognition and a great motivation for all Ukrainians who are now defending Europe from further russian aggression.

This was emphasized by the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, during a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, the Federal Minister for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sports of the Republic of Austria, and the Green Party leader Werner Kogler.

"We will not try to «skip» the established procedures for the accession process but will patiently meet all the necessary Copenhagen criteria. All we need now is your political will to recognize that we are part of the European project," said the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, adding that this decision will be historic and will end the bloody war in Europe.

He also assured that Ukraine is serious about making a breakthrough in ensuring the rule of law and overcoming corruption in the near future, despite the war in Ukraine:

"We will do it with the same determination with which we opposed russia's external aggression."

Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that Ukraine appreciates everything Austria does to help Ukraine and its citizens who are temporarily in the country within the framework of "solidarity protection."

"Austria has become a second home for almost 70,000 Ukrainians, and children have the opportunity to continue their studies here," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The participants also discussed Austria's participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine and the punishment of the aggressor for starting the war against Ukraine.
