Speaking in the European Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, called for granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
"Ukrainians need to hear a message from Europe that “what you are doing is not in vain, and we see your resistance.” If we do not receive this message on June 24, putin will receive the message that now he can go on with impunity," Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
The European Council will soon decide on the future status of relations between Ukraine and the EU. According to the Chairman, Ukraine is well aware that this is only a candidate status, but it is ready to continue working on the European track quickly and efficiently.
"We guarantee that having received this impetus, a political message, we are ready to continue working. We are ready to do it quickly and efficiently – as we did by filling out the questionnaire for EU accession. I ask you – let's do everything to make June 24 a turning point and our common victory," he added.
The Speaker of Parliament sincerely believes that EU leaders will make decisions in favor of unity:
"In favor of the unity of countries that see their future and values ??alike. In favor of unity, which is the best system of collective security. Only unity can be the key to our common future.”
Ruslan Stefanchuk also asked to impose sanctions on russia "because it is tough to stop the war we are sponsoring."
“I realize that this is sometimes a great burden on the budgets of your countries, but believe me, otherwise, the price of defeat will be many times higher! We must do everything to stop this war economically," Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
