The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, delivers a speech at the Plenary Session of the European Parliament (Strasbourg, France)

The Chairman expressed his gratitude to the European Parliament, together with other institutions of the European Union, national governments, and parliaments of the Member States, for their solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and European solid political, economic, humanitarian, and military support.

“Thank you, President Metsola, for your courage and determination during your visit to Kyiv on April 1. You were the first EU leader to visit the Ukrainian capital, you addressed the Verkhovna Rada when fighting was still going on around Kyiv. This is a real sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and a reliable partnership between our institutions. Ukrainians do not forget and appreciate support and solidarity,” – thanked the Chairman.

Stefanchuk also noted the unanimous firm position of the European Parliament and EU institutions in the investigation of russian war crimes and the readiness of the EU to become a leader in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine

The politician thanked for the solidarity and assistance of governments, non-governmental organizations, international institutions, and ordinary citizens for the 14 million Ukrainians fleeing the russian invasion.

The Chairman stressed the need for further joint action – providing Ukraine with weapons, implementing the toughest sanctions, support for Ukrainians and the economy of the Ukrainian state, as well as recognition of Ukraine's European perspective and legal decisions on this issue.

Stefanchuk noted that such decisions are unfortunately too slow and do not allow to respond adequately to the current situation.

“I sincerely believe that the European Union will make a historic decision in favor of this unity. In favor of the unity of countries that see their future and values ??equally,” – Ruslan Stefanchuk concluded.
