Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met with Alojz Kovsca, Speaker of the National Council, and Urska Klakocar, Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia

The Deputy Chairwoman stressed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is grateful to both chambers of the Slovenian Parliament for adopting important resolutions in support of Ukraine, including the Declaration of the National Assembly and the Resolution of the National Council of Slovenia of 9 March 2022 condemning russian aggression and supporting Ukraine's European perspective.

Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada called on the Slovenian Parliament to recognize russia's aggression against Ukraine as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people, adding that other countries such as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Canada have already done so.

"Thank you for fighting for Europe. As the Chairman of the National Council of Slovenia, I will do everything to help Ukraine in difficult times," said Alojz Kovsca. He also assured that russia's actions will not go unpunished.

"War crimes have no statute of limitations. russia has shown its purpose.  This goal is to destroy if it cannot be occupied," Kovsca said.

The Speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly, Urska Klakocar Zupancic, stressed that only the Ukrainian people should determine their future, their domestic and foreign policies, and their membership in international unions and organizations.

"That is why Slovenia condemns russia's aggression and recognizes the European future of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," said the Speaker.

In addition, she said that Slovenia would continue to provide political, military, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, which currently reaches more than 10 million euros.

For her part, Olena Kondratiuk stressed that today Ukraine desperately needs heavy weapons, support for EU integration, and even greater attention and care for our people under the temporary protection of the European Union.

The Speaker of the National Assembly promised to hold an internal discussion of the situation in Ukraine in the newly elected Parliament of Slovenia soon and to work out a plan for further comprehensive assistance to Ukraine.

"On behalf of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, I also invited the leadership of the bicameral Parliament of Slovenia to visit Ukraine," Olena Kondratyuk concluded.
