During a working trip to the Czech Republic, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met in Prague with First Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jiri Ruzicka.

"Parliamentary Diplomatic Front.  In the Czech Republic, we are working to give Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership. Ukraine counts on the support of the friendly Czech Republic, as the next President of the Council of the EU, on the path of our country's integration into the European Union,” said the Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.

She noted that the forthcoming meeting of the European Council in June 2022 is crucial for a political decision on Ukraine's status as a candidate for EU membership.

"Ukraine is convinced that the candidacy will be one of the key factors in deterring russian aggression and its efforts to undermine security and unity throughout Europe," Olena Kondratiuk said.

First Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jiri Ruzicka stressed that the Czech Republic sees Ukraine in the European family of nations.

"From two chambers of the Czech Parliament, as well as the entire Czech Republic, Ukraine has full support in obtaining a candidacy and further integration into the EU," said Jiri Ruzicka.

Olena Kondratiuk expressed gratitude on behalf of the Verkhovna Rada to both chambers of the Czech Parliament for supporting Ukraine's European integration aspirations.
