During the telephone conversation with Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Kakha Kuchava, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that Ukraine highly appreciates Georgia's consistent support in defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"For Ukraine, the statement issued on September 21 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the non-recognition of illegitimate elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol is very important. It confirms the identity of our positions on deoccupation," Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine thanked Georgia for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicepersons who suffered as a result of Russia's armed aggression, as well as members of their families.
In addition, Ruslan Stefanchuk proposed to resume cooperation within the framework of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Parliament of Georgia, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Parliament of Ukraine.
"In my opinion, this Assembly is a good inter-parliamentary mechanism for joint promotion of various initiatives both on the European integration of our states and on counteracting Russia's hybrid aggression," he said.
In addition, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine raised the issue of Mikheil Saakashvili's arrest in Georgia.
"I call on the Georgian side to investigate Mr Saakashvili's case objectively and impartially. We would be grateful for possible assistance in his hospitalization in a civilian medical institution and permission for a group of Ukrainian doctors to visit him for an additional examination of Mr. Saakashvili's health," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
