The Conciliation Council of the Parliamentary Factions and Groups supported the proposal of the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk to hear the report of the Minister of Health Viktor Liashko on measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. By decision of the Conciliation Council, the Minister is invited  to address during the Hour of Questions to the Government.

“The situation is critical. Doctors on the ground are now sounding the alarm: hospitals lack resuscitation specialists, beds, and oxygen. Some local authorities are already turning to central authorities to send them additional doctors. Therefore, we need to hear how the Government is going to contain the dangerous strain ‘Delta’ and save people`s lives,” Olena Kondratiuk said.

The Vice Speaker also supported the need to adopt the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada on the procedure for admission to work in the Parliament MPs, staff of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada, journalists and other visitors only if they have a vaccination certificate or PCR test within 48 hours.

“We all have to work on equal terms in this ‘covid’ time. This is not some innovation in Ukraine. Parliaments, government agencies, hospitals and educational institutions in many European countries are currently operating in the same way. Encouraging vaccination should be one of the main tasks, because we are also an example to citizens,” said Olena Kondratiuk.

According to her, vaccination helps not only to reduce the risk of infection of an individual, but also to prevent the transmission of the virus to other people who work in the same team.
