Ukraine will continue to move towards ensuring equal participation of representatives of all sexes in making key decisions for our country. This was stated by Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov during his speech at the V Ukrainian Women's Congress.

The Speaker of the Parliament noted that the Ukrainian legislation is of high quality in the issue of gender equality. Dmytro Razumkov added that the Verkhovna Rada of the ninth convocation adopted a number of laws related to equal opportunities, including the Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Ensuring Equal Opportunities for Mothers and Fathers in Child Care.”

According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, today is a difficult time for Ukraine and the world, so it is important to unite efforts to jointly overcome the challenges.

Dmytro Razumkov reminded that Ukraine has been forced to defend its territorial integrity for eight years now, and women, along with men, are defending the country's independence. According to him, women play an equally important role in overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. “Doctors, nurses, junior medical staff are actually on a new front, which appeared two years ago. For the most part, they are female. Therefore, I think, once again women demonstrate leadership in protecting not only the rights and freedoms, but also the main thing - protecting the health of our citizens,” he said.

The Speaker of the Parliament noted that the Verkhovna Rada also has positive changes in the issue of gender equality. “If we compare the first convocation of the Parliament – there were only 3.5% of deputies – women. In the last convocation there were 52 of them, which is a little more than 12.5%. And today more than 20.5% of women-deputies work in the Verkhovna Rada. I am pleased to admit it and talk about it,” he added.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada noted that today women are presidents, they head governments, parliaments, run large companies, create businesses and become successful. “This trend will only increase. Now it is difficult to imagine any area in our state where a woman could not express herself. I think this is the absolutely right way and a good sign,” Dmytro Razumkov said.
