The Verkhovna Rada is interested in continuing cooperation with the European Parliament's mission on reform the Ukrainian Parliament in the format of Jean Monnet's Dialogues. This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Razumkov on Thursday, March 25, 2021 during the video conference with President of the European Parliament Pat Cox in 2002-2004.
"Jean Monnet's Dialogues are an effective mechanism that helps us make our work more constructive," said Dmytro Razumkov. According to him, the Ukrainian Parliament highly appreciates such cooperation and is determined to continue it.
Dmytro Razumkov also noted that the Memorandum of Understanding between the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament, signed on March 22 this year in Brussels, will be a solid basis for further joint work on the institutional reform of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Among the issues relevant to the Verkhovna Rada, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament called the solution of the problem related to the submitting of a large number of amendments to the bills by the MPs to delay its consideration. "Such facts do not often happen in the Verkhovna Rada, but they do exist. This is not a parliamentary mechanism of influence and debate. I think in the future we will look for ways out of this situation," he said.
According to the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, the draft law On the parliamentary service, which was adopted in the first reading, is important. He also added that a bill On opposition is being drafted.
