Nuclear energy plays an important role in energy security of Ukraine. This was stated by Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov during the visit to the Khmelnytskyi NPP Production Enterprise.

“We understand that the work of nuclear energy is related to ensuring the energy security of our state. Especially in today's conditions, when we have an increase in tariffs, in conditions when after some time we will be integrated into the European energy supply system. And we must go there with our positive baggage of knowledge and opportunities,” said Dmytro Razumkov.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada got acquainted with the work of the Khmelnytskyi NPP, its production facilities and talked to the employees of the nuclear power plant. He thanked them for their work and stressed that nuclear energy plays an important role in Ukraine's energy system. “I understand all the responsibility that rests on you, on the state to protect our interests, in particular on national security,” he added.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, today the Khmelnytskyi NPP accounts for about 7.6 percent of the total electricity production in Ukraine.

“We are represented both in nuclear energy and in alternative sources. In fact, we close the full spectrum. We must continue to move in this direction. We must have a balance, an understanding of the interests of the state, an understanding of our energy capabilities, our energy security,” Dmytro Razumkov stressed.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, the completion of the construction of the 3rd and 4th power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP is a complex issue that can be solved only by joint efforts of various public authorities. He noted that the Verkhovna Rada, for its part, is ready to work on legislative initiatives that will facilitate the project.
