“An important part of the decentralization reform is constant dialogue between the Verkhovna Rada and representatives of local self-government,” -- Dmytro Razumkov

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov took part in a sitting of the Local Governance Advisory Council dedicated to the implementation of Ukraine’s decentralization reform. "We are coming to conclusion of this reform, which has lasted for years.  It has not been easy, it still brings a lot of discussions, but I am sure that this is how we will find the best solutions,” the Speaker stated.

Dmytro Razumkov noted that this reform remains one of the key issues on the agenda of both the Parliament, the Office of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers (the national level), and at the level of oblasts, cities, districts and communities (the subnational level).

The Speaker also reminded that there had been set up a standing work group on Ukraine’s decentralization reform.

Into the bargain, Dmytro Razumkov touched the list of issues relating to preliminaries to and the holding of local elections slated for this autumn. “The respective legislative initiatives are currently on the go at the line committee, and I am sure that the committee members are ready for discussion and cooperation.  The president, its office, and the ministers will also be directly involved in this process,” the Chairman stressed.

He also then assured that the Parliament is fully ready for dialogue and constructive work on the issue. "To my mind, a unilateral approach to the decentralization process seems to be inapt at the moment, and it is utterly important that our joint work be clearly constructive and there be less politicking," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada highlighted.
