“This sitting of the Parliamentary Assembly will open new horizons of successful cooperation between Ukraine and Poland,” -- Olena Kondratiuk

The event has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, and is to be held through the use of videoconferencing facilities - co-chaired by the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk and the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Terlecki.

Opening the sitting, the vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that the Ukrainian and Polish parliaments should play one of the key roles in the implementation of a friendly and all-embracing Ukrainian-Polish dialogue. According to her, this assembly sitting will open new horizons of successful cooperation between the so close and friendly neighboring states.

Olena Kondratiuk thanked the Republic of Poland for the support and assistance it has been providing to Ukraine during the time of great perils. "We appreciate the principled and consistent support of Ukraine on its path towards integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance," the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada stated.

The vice speaker is convinced that Ukrainians and Poles should not be in permanent thrall to their tragic history. "We both have enough strength to create a future where there will be no mutual grievances, stereotypes, prejudices or mistrust, but only the desire to live and cooperate in a united European family," the politician stressed.

Participants of the event are to discuss the following topical issues:

- actions taken by both parliaments to rebalance economic and social stability disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic;

- regional security matters (information warfare, cyberattacks and hybrid threats);

- Ukrainian-Polish defence and energy collaboration, development aid and humanitarian assistance;

- bilateral trade and economic relations - infrastructure, customs regulations, border checkpoints, labour migration;

- social development, educational cooperation;

- Ukraine-Poland historical dialogue.

Adoption of a joint declaration of the XII Session of the Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly is expected as a result of the sitting.
