"Interrelations with the Republic of Estonia shall be only developing in a positive dimension," -- Dmytro Razumkov at a meeting with the President of Estonia
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid.
The parties discussed further bilateral cooperation, exchange of experience in the implementation of e-government and e-elections, as well as mutual support at the international level.
Dmytro Razumkov thanked the Estonian people for the consistent and unwavering support of Ukraine in maintaining its territorial integrity and fighting for independence, as well as in promoting Ukrainian interests in the European Union. "Your steadfast and unswerving position towards supporting Ukraine's interests both in Europe and against the Russian Federation is quite inspiring, and we are very grateful to you for that," the parliament’s speaker stated.
Dmytro Razumkov informed the President of the Republic of Estonia about reforms in Ukraine, noting that both the majority and the opposition adopt a constructive stance upon supporting draft bills of moment for the country.
According to Dmytro Razumkov, the lifting of parliamentary immunity was an important impetus to the beginning of new reforms. He then specified that MPs would be protected from persecution for political convictions during voting as well as for their in-house public utterances.
Among the priority areas in the ongoing reforms, the speaker highlighted the anti-corruption crusade, the reform of the law enforcement system and courts to ensure that every citizen could feel protected.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed his interest in exchanging experience with Estonia regarding the implementation of electronic elections and electronic government, the unification of registries and the reform of a health care system. "I am sure that representatives of the Government will be grateful for the assistance and support provided," the politician asserted.
The President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid assured of the continued support of Ukraine and officially invited chairmen of the Verkhovna Rada committees to visit Estonia. "It will be the beginning of a good cooperation," she said, observing Ukraine's rapid reforms and "support to a vibrant and brisky democracy in Ukraine".
Kersti Kaljulaid wished the Ukrainian side success in furtherance of reforms, including the corruption fight, e-government, national digitalization, health care reshaping and protection of rights of the outs.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary Cooperation Bohdan Yaremenko.
