The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy appealed to the Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel to support Ukraine’s initiative - recognition of the Holodomor tragedy as genocide against the Ukrainian people at the level of the Bundestag. This move might be timed to the 85th anniversary of the calamity.
At the end of the Thursday’s meeting between the speaker and parliamentary factions heads with the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, there were discussed a number of issues concerning Ukraine-Germany interrelations.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, "all the factions, regardless of their position over social and economic reforms, observed the very great role of both Germany and Mrs Merkel in their support of Ukraine in such a difficult period". "And this is a certain sign of Germany's systemic policy towards Ukraine, the sanctions policy against Russia and the reforms that led Ukraine to success and raised its business ranking," he said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that he had appealed to Angela Merkel to support Ukraine’s Holodomor initiative at the Bundestag level.
