Communicating with the media on Friday in Tbilisi, the Ukrainian parliament’s chairman A. Parubiy lime-lighted the topical issues of Ukraine’s home policy and everyday life, resounding rather keenly.

Why two Ukraine’s oblasts still not renamed?

Speaking about the would-be renaming the Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts which is still pending, the politician explained it by factional in-armwrestling about which name to choose – either the ‘Sicheslav oblast’ (as set forth in the relevant draft bill) or the ‘Dnipro oblast’ (yet “un-billed”). Whichever they choose, there must be 226 ayes ensured, said the speaker.

2019 state budget and two outs at stake

The key issues of the next plenary week are approval of the 2019 state budget on the first reading and stripping of parliamentary immunity from the two MPs at the instance of the prosecutor general. The budget is to be pre-adopted by 20th October.

State language bill

The second reading of the bill seems to be far more constructive. A cluster of moot points were off while the first reading, leaving just a language committee (commission) and a language ombudsman issues to be settled. However, the language debate is going to be very busy and hot argument.

Out of the four thematic bills at stake, there was chosen one which seemed to be deepest, most universal and elaborate, showing a set of tools to implement the law and abide it by as well. The draft law provides for “sizeable and long-run transition stages capable of easing and coping with any shock, confusion in order to ensure a smooth adaption”. According to A.Parubiy, the bill was in its first-reading already adapted to those language laws that had been pre-approved by the Parliament during the last year.

Personal sanctions against TV-related legal entities

The chairman confirmed his readiness to ink the parliamentary resolution imposing personal special economic and other kinds of restrictions against certain legal entities associated with some TV broadcasters after consideration of the two resolution-killing bills tabled. The said “killers” shall be reviewed at the nearest plenary session and, hopefully, rejected.

“There is no doubt the killing bills will be declined, thus allowing to sign this sanctions resolution with immediate effect,” said the Chairman A.Parubiy. – “The same move is hoped for from the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine”.
