Andriy Parubiy, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, had ample discussions with the US congressmen on mechanisms of supporting the Ukrainian Parliament’s institutional capacity

He has been in debates on the issue with Peter J.Roskam, the Chairman, alongside David Price, Ranking Member of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP) Commission of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Speaker thanked both the congressmen for their Holodomor resolution recognizing it as genocide of the Ukrainian people, with his hopes that the paper would be passed by the Congress by the end of this year.

Andriy Parubiy told about the progress of reforms in Ukraine, in particular, of the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the laws on the supreme anti-corruption court, made in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission, and on national security.

The parties also discussed mechanisms to support the institutional capacity of the Ukrainian Parliament in the light of a joint Memorandum between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Congress of the United States of America, signed by Andriy Parubiy, the Chairperson of the Vekhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

The said parliamentary institutional capacity support arrangements provide for, among other things, involving US experts to elaborate recommendations on the important reforms which are high on the UA Parliament’s agenda.
