The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy had a meeting with John Simon Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons of the British Parliament.

The parties remarked on the intensification of the inter-parliamentary dialogue between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of Ukraine’s Parliament expressed his sincere gratitude to the British side for supporting the independence and territorial integrity of the State of Ukraine.  He also thanked the British instructors for the training programmes rendered to the military of Ukraine.

“We do feel also grateful for the revival in interaction between our parliaments, that have recently attained to sort of ‘higher ground’ in our relations, being greatly contributed through some thirty visits to our burning part of East by your parliamentarians within the last six months alone,” highlighted the Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament.

“It is a matter of particular importance for us to demonstrate the British parliamentarians inclusive that this overwhelming Putin’s threat is of global nature. Not only against Ukraine this was goes, the whole free world has been challenged by these continuing hybrid hostilities. A host of developments around the world including cyberattacks, meddling in elections confirm this fact manifestly,” stated Andriy Parubiy.

In turn, the Speaker of the House of Commons John S. Bercow observed that Russia’s President “does slate further incursions”. He also then called “the fall of the Iron Curtain” to be the greatest victory.

According to Andriy Parubiy, "the fall of the Soviet Union has given independence to my country, for which we have been fighting for years, for us it is the biggest historical event of the twentieth century, but now Putin's Russia seeks to take independence from us, since Putin is dreaming of restoring Russia's influence, which the Soviet Union once had. However, he realizes that it is impossible to do without Ukraine. This is not the last goal, but it is very important goal".

In addition, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine related the Speaker about the reform of the Ukrainian Parliament, and his intention to establish an educational centre at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, taking a leaf from the British Parliament.
