The Fiftieth General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) in Kyiv, Ukraine

A squiz at the speech essentials

In his greeting speech the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Andriy Parubiy welcomed the guests who had arrived to attend the jubilee session, having pointed out the Parliament of Ukraine was pleased to host the so esteemed event of ever-growing role and political weight.

It has been the fifth plenary sitting taking place in Kyiv since the PABSEC’s inception, whose silver jubilee is to be observed in 2018.

A great deal of work has been done within this span of time but even more is to be garred in the future. There is the need to set new priorities which are closer to the modern lay of the land, getting rid of the obsolete illusions and burdens.

Ukraine has always adhered to the PABSEC’s goal and tasks, regarding, in particular, building legal grounds for all-round cooperation in the region, furthering national parliaments in strengthening democracy and respect to the human rights, enhancing economic links among the member countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, etc. Ukraine does recognize the prominent role of the PABSEC as a platform for developing inter-parliamentary cooperation, and it everyhow supports the values and ideas which are the bedrock of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

However, it must be acknowledged today’s security situation in the region seems to be quite complicated and tense. It has to be admitted where the seeds of this cruel tension are. It ought to be pronounced these are the aggressive Russia’s doings which caused the brutal violations of the territorial integrity not only Ukraine but other neighbouring BSEC member countries as well.

The world’s leading countries have established sanctions against Russia, keeping them in force for long. Ukraine is grateful to the world community for the many-sided assistance and support, and it is Ukraine’s firm stance now that the sanctions must go on until the complete restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity according to the law of nations, including the Crimea occupied.

Russia’s price for the overt breach of international law and the armed aggression against other countries ought to double day by day!

“We have to be responsible and well consolidated. Only concerted actions of ours may be capable of forcing those who disrespect the Charter basics, behave in respectful manner towards the key grounds of coexistence and neighborly relations”.

At the conclusion, the Chairman wished those in attendance extremely fruitful work and finally announced the PABSEC session opened.
