“Parliamentary diplomacy and interrelations are attaining ever-growing significance throughout the world,” – A.Parubiy at a meeting with the President of the Senate of Australia Stephen Parry
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy said he hoped that the revival of the friendship group with Ukraine in Australia would speed up the intensification of the inter-parliamentary links. He told that to the media after meeting with the Australian Senate President Stephen Parry in Kyiv on Monday. "It’s very significant that the friendship group between Australia and Ukraine has ‘rebooted’ its activity in Australia, and I am sure that it will be able to intensify the inter-parliamentary dialogue. Parliamentary diplomacy is becoming more and more important in the world," Parubiy said.
He added that the visit by the President of the Senate of Australia to Ukraine would constitute a new phase in relations between the parliaments of the two countries.
Parubiy also said that during the meeting he had thanked Parry for supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and "especially for the preservation and continuation of sanctions against the Russian Federation".
He also recalled the downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. "This tragedy has demonstrated the overall threat of the Russian aggression for the whole world. We are sure that the investigation will not only demonstrate the culprits of this glaring misdeed, but that they shall be justly prosecuted," highlighted A.Parubiy.
The President of the Australian Senate S. Parry praised the friendly interstate relations and stated that Australia will continue to support sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Parry said that at a briefing after the meeting with Rada’s Speaker Andriy Parubiy. "We shall keep on supporting the sovereignty of the Ukrainian State and the sovereignty of its borders," the President of Australian Senate said, noting that the countries have amicable relations at the parliamentary and government levels. "The relations between us are not just ties between the two parliaments -- they are also relations between the two governments. We have got friends in Ukraine, and Ukrainians have friends in Australia as well," he stressed.
S. Parry noted that Australia would be much delighted to welcome parliamentarians from Ukraine.
He stressed that Australia and Ukraine faced different problems but then he mentioned that the two countries “can support each other in overcoming the barriers in order to work for the benefit of our nations".
