Fellow Ukrainians!
I cordially congratulate you on the occasion of the National Flag Day.
The blue and yellow banner is a holy symbol of the struggle for Ukrainian independence. It is a symbol of the millennia-old tradition of the Ukrainian state.
In the battles on the Syni Vody, under Grunwald and Orsha, our knights’ flags were blue and gold.
Ukrainian Sich Riflemen fought under this flag, soldiers of the UNR and ZUNR armies. Sailors of the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea raised blue and yellow flags on their ships on April 29, 1918. Ukrainian insurgents of the 1920s on Naddniprianschyna, the Cossacks of the Carpathian Ukraine and the soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army resisted the invaders with their flag in hands.
This year will mark the 25th anniversary of the return of the combat banner of the Third Rail Division of the UNR Army to Ukraine - a crimson cloth with an embroidered blue and yellow flag and the slogan: “For the liberation of Ukraine”. On the first anniversary of Independence in 1992, during the festivities on Sofia's Square in Kiev, Patriarch Mstyslav Skrypnyk, a former UNR army cornet, handed the flag of his division to the command of the National Guard of Ukraine as a symbol of continuity of the Ukrainian military victory. Modern Ukrainian soldiers will solemnly carry this flag on Independence Day parade.
As in ancient times, our ancestors defended the Ukrainian land from the invaders, and today, their heirs, ATO soldiers, sacrificially defeat the native Fatherland from the age-old enemy - Russia. Today, Ukrainian state flags flutter in the positions of our soldiers at the front line.
I am convinced the time will come when the flag of liberation and return to life in a free united Ukrainian family is raised again over Donets’k, Luhans’k, Symferopol’ and Sevastopol’.
The blue and yellow flag is a symbol of the Ukrainians dignity and unity all over the world.
On this great day we will raise our Ukrainian Flag
over our houses and places of work. Happy Holiday!
Glory Ukraine! Honour to the Flag!
