Parliament’s Chairperson congratulates Ukrainians on the Day of Christianization of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine
Fellow Ukrainians,
I am delighted to extend my sincere congratulations to all of You on this Day of Christianization of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine!
In 988, Grand Prince Volodymyr the Great made a truly state choice -- he allowed Christianity to pester up Ukrainian lands. Christianization of Kyivan Rus is not only religious evolvement in confession of faith, but also a brilliant political move in Ukraine’s history. The Byzantine rite had become footing for further Ukrainian state formation, and Kyivan Rus-Ukraine made then a part of the general European Christian civilization.
This Day might be another food for thought over our spiritual unanimity. With the spiritual hub in Kyiv the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church shall stand as a pledge for Ukraine’s mental unity and national security.
Putin’s Russia is not only waging an aggressive war of conquest against Ukraine, but it is also going to hybrid hostilities -- a part of which the vigorous attempts to make a mockery of and encroach upon Ukraine’s past might be detected.
Since the times of bloody Peter I, Muscovia has been striving to pocket Ukraine’s history, to grab the glory of the mighty medieval state of Rus, of Prince Volodymyr the Great, the history of Christianization of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine.
Through this mental appropriation Russia has long tried to make it legal laying hands on our lands.
Let us prevent the aggressor from stealing our history, our glory, from occupying our lands!
Fellow citizens! May the good Lord guard Ukraine and the people of Ukraine! The Truth of God is with Us! The Victory will be ours!
