“The NATO’s support is the key point and dimension of opposing the Russian aggression,” -- Andriy Parubiy at the meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
Andriy Parubiy, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held on Monday a face-to-face meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
At the beginning of the meeting the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada expressed his sincere gratitude to the Secretary General and the whole North Atlantic community for their assistance and support to Ukraine at the international scene. He then put a special stress that Ukraine has made its choice in favour of the Euro-Atlantic integration for good and all. “The membership in NATO is our strategic goal. This is the standpoint of the whole Ukrainian society. More than half the citizens back the pathway to the North Atlantic, and the Ukrainian Parliament has legally confirmed this movement recently,” said he having then added that we all still had a lot to do on this way to NATO.
As Ukraine is ready to play an active part in strengthening collaboration with NATO, the Ukrainian Parliament took initiative to hold a NATO PA’s session in Ukraine like it was in Georgia.
“This would be quite a meaningful action as in Tbilisi. I do hope that our proposition will be backed by the Alliance member states. We depend upon the NATO’s support in pressing over Russia which breaches law of nations and its obligations – together we’ll do a lot more and be able to ensure peace all round,” he stressed.
Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization pointed out he is delighted and honoured to be here in Kyiv. He informed of the newly launched representative office for NATO in Ukraine and expressed his hope that it would become a new discussion floor for further projects and collaboration.
The Secretary General made special reference that “the NATO members are rendering support to Ukraine since they have entire coincidence with Ukraine’s opinion – it corresponds to the NATO’s interests completely”. “The Russian Federation’s aggressive doings are the blatant challenge to the whole world order established after World War II,” he said. “We are calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from the eastern Ukraine and stop fostering the mercenaries, deter shelling and take away the heavy weaponry”.
“We are rendering assistance through the trust funds to help reform the logistics, cybersecurity, medical rehabilitation and conducting numerous reforms,” added he promising to deliver modern equipment to assist the governmental establishments to oppose cyberattacks.
The Secretary General from the other side thanked Ukraine for the assistance it has been granting to the Alliance. “You teach us a lot, particularly opposing the hybrid warfare displays, cyberattacks,” he stressed then.
The Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament was grateful to Jens Stoltenberg for his today’s words that Russia must withdraw thousands of its militants from Ukraine and stop feeding the hired guns with arms and command echelon, that NATO firmly stands on the grounds of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, that NATO never recognized and will never recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimea.
“This degrades all pains of the Russian Federation to convince whosoever there are no Russian troops in Donbas. However, the international investigation showed that the BUK was brought from Russia, was operated by the Russian militants. Your stance is very important. Information warfare, cyberwar is in no way second than the arms are as the main task of Putin – to take complete control over Ukraine”.
The Chairperson stressed that “the NATO’s support is the key point and dimension of opposing the Russian aggression”. The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his belief that a close association with NATO is very important to Ukraine as well as for restoration of the world security. NATO is today the only organization of free states able to stop Putin’s aggression, debar the Kremlin-inspired global destabilization and protect the free world,” underlined A.Parubiy.
