The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii expressed his sincere gratitude to Gianni Buciccio, Head of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission) for the great support Ukraine has been gaining from the commission. “Most reforms we implement undergo your examination,’ stressed he. ‘Your expert judgment is of great importance to us since we plan to reform near every sphere of our life”.
The participants discussed certain areas of Ukrainian legislation to be reformed, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, electoral legislation, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and some procedural issues. High hopes for a further fruitful cooperation were voiced by the Ukrainian Chairperson.
G. Buciccio denoted in his turn that he had talked a lot of Ukraine, presenting the Venice Commission’s annual report. “Our mutual cooperation is the story of success,’ underscored he, with high expectations for further boosting of collaboration with the Ukrainian Parliament.
It was underlined that Ukraine’s judicial reform is in operation, being updated methodically. “The process is gaining much debates, nevertheless we are very confident about its further implementation,’ highlighted the Parliament’s head. The law on the Supreme Council of Justice was adopted; a draft bill on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is under way. The foremost tasks for the Parliament are, over again, next adoption of the law on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, education, pension and medical reforms.
‘Our plans are global. Inasmuch as we have lots of deadlines, we need to speed up consideration of the most important bills first,’ added the chairperson.
Gianni Buciccio indicated the Venice Commission approves any Ukraine’s initiatives leading to a better inner climate and reshaping the Parliament.
“We are in favor of a more efficient Parliament, for a smoother decision process,’ said he, and voiced his hopes that the Commission would finalize Rada’s bills by late September 2017.
