On Friday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andrii Parubii told the Rada TV Channel that Ukraine has to create grounds for formation of the united Ukrainian local orthodox church.
On June 7, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered the draft resolution No. 4793 "On address of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I regarding the provision of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine with autocephaly."
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that respective decision was considerably principled for him. He reminded that in 1924, the Ecumenical Patriarch decided to provide the Polish Orthodox Church with autocephaly in response to respective address of the Polish Government and Chief of State of the Second Republic of Poland Jozef Pilsudski.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that respective issue is of considerable importance for Ukraine. "Any split of the church in Ukraine is unacceptable," he said.
