Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii notes that "it is very important not only to talk about the reformation of the Ukrainian Parliament, but also to embody the said reform."
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada told this to www.censor.net on Wednesday.
"This reform will also be important for the organization of this Parliament on the whole and to intensify its work. The work has to be organized in a way to guarantee sufficient number of deputies in the session hall to take important decisions," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said. He noted that one of the major elements of the intensification of the Parliament's work will be the improvement of deputies' discipline.
Parubii said he would resume promulgation of the level of attendance of people's deputies on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and in the Holos Ukrainy parliamentary newspaper. "The issue of people's deputies' discipline has almost reached the level of the national security as when the draft laws important for the state or the draft laws required for the cooperation with the International Monetary Fund remain non-adopted only due to the absence of parliamentarians. I would call it a problem going beyond the issue of the discipline alone," he said.
According to Parubii, "the law on Verkhovna Rada Regulations must raise the efficiency of the Verkhovna Rada's work." The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said that during the two forthcoming plenary weeks he would insist on consideration of that law. "The amendments to the Verkhovna Rada Regulations had been elaborated along with the Needs Assessment Mission of the European Parliament headed by Pat Cox. The Commission and we have spent many months to elaborate the proposals to improve the work of the Ukrainian Parliament," he added.
