On Sunday, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii told the Inter TV channel that he would take administrative measures to punish absentee deputies. He expressed confidence that such actions would be able to raise the discipline and ensure effective voting process in the session hall.
Parubii noted that very often draft laws supported by all the deputies are not adopted in absence of discipline in the walls of the Verkhovna Rada. "The absolute majority of people's deputies are active — those, who elaborate the draft laws and work in the session hall. At the same time, there many, who do not attend their working places and do not take part in the adoption of the laws," he said.
To solve the problem, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada offered a number of the following measures: holding of tete-a-tete talks with the absentees; promulgation of absentees' names with the help of mass media organizations. He said that earlier, there had been a similar term and noted that it required resumption: "the absentees have to feel not only moral discomfort but also the material one.
