At the Friday plenary meeting, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii noted the importance of making the work of the Ukrainian Parliament more constructive. Andrii Parubii said that one of the inconveniences in the work of the Verkhovna Rada is the requirement (under Article 25 of the Verkhovna Rada Regulations) to announce requests over a span of 30 minutes on Fridays. According to him, the Needs Assessment Mission of the European Parliament headed by Pat Cox, which along with the Ukrainian Parliament elaborated the proposals touching the improvement of work of the Ukrainian legislature, pointed to the importance of amending the Regulations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. "[The Verkhovna Rada] Secretariat also did a great job, and [Deputy Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament] Oksana Syroyid has elaborated the draft law that fundamentally amends the Regulations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," he said.
Parubii informed that within the framework of the meeting with the heads of the parliamentary factions on Wednesday, the parties agreed that the heads of the deputy groups and factions of the Ukrainian Parliament would be given a week to examine this draft law and if at least most of all factions are satisfied with it, the draft law will be immediately amended next plenary meeting in May.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada requested the deputies to spend the upcoming Easter holidays examining the document. "We have to be rapid, effective and active in matters touching the recommendations of the Pat Cox Mission," he said.
