The summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has officially commenced in Strasbourg. Members of the Ukrainian delegation will appeal to their colleagues to have their respective parliaments ratify the agreement on the compensation mechanism, while also working to engage as many countries as possible in the special tribunal for the crime of aggression committed by the russian federation.
This was stated by Yevheniia Kravchuk, a member of the "Servant of the People" parliamentary faction, Deputy Chairwoman of the parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, and a member of the Permanent Delegation to PACE.
"In practice, this is the first session since the operational launch of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression by the russian federation against Ukraine. Therefore, in our speeches, we will appeal to our colleagues to ensure their parliaments ratify the agreement on the compensation mechanism, and also engage other nations—not just member states of the Council of Europe—in the work of the special tribunal. The unwavering priority for the Ukrainian delegation remains promoting our agenda and keeping the Council of Europe strictly focused on holding russia accountable for the crime of aggression," the politician noted.
She added that two resolutions authored by Ukrainian MPs are scheduled for a vote this week.
"The first is my resolution, which I prepared within the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination. It addresses countering gender stereotypes in the media. The document contains specific recommendations for Council of Europe member states on combating sexism, ensuring equal representation of women and men in the media space, and creating safer working conditions for women in journalism and media. The second resolution, by my colleague Larysa Bilozir, concerns ensuring food security in times of crisis and the strategic role of Ukraine," the MP informed.
Additionally, she noted that the PACE session will feature special hearings involving Ukrainian veterans, alongside a dedicated cultural event.
