The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak met with the Vice President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union Vazgen Yakubyan on Friday.

Welcoming the guests, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that the successful re-election of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on February 18 will open a new page in relations between Ukraine and Armenia.

Members of the meeting discussed issues of cultural-humanitarian and trade-economic cooperation between Ukraine and Armenia. In particular, Volodymyr Rybak expressed confidence that the Program of Bilateral Cooperation in the Sphere of Culture for 2013-2017, which was signed in February this year, will contribute to further successful cooperation in those areas.

The Chairman of Ukrainian Parliament highly appreciated the contribution of 300 thousand Armenians who currently live in Ukraine into economic, cultural and politic life of our country, stating that they are integral part of our society.

According to Volodymyr Rybak, between Ukraine and Armenia “there have been traditionally good friendly relations that can be developed and improved through the effective functioning of inter-parliamentary friendship group and activity of non-governmental organizations and charity funds.” “Our mission will allow closer cooperation with Armenian people in the world,” he said.

In his turn, V.Yakubyan stated that the activity of the benevolent union should contribute as to Armenians in Ukraine as to Ukrainians in general.
