This was stated by Yehor Cherniev, a member of the “Servant of the People” faction, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, and Head of Ukraine’s Permanent Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
“Following statements about a possible U.S. withdrawal from NATO, there has been increasing talk about the creation of a European defense alliance. In this situation, Ukraine could become a key player in this new security architecture for the European continent. I believe this is the greatest and most promising prospect for us,” the politician said.
According to him, the past few months have clearly shown that Ukraine is giving a strong response to the aggressor on the battlefield and steadily increasing its strength.
“In the past two months, russia has had no successes on the battlefield; their advance has practically stalled. Moreover, we are recapturing some settlements, which is why the russians are attempting pressure at the political level. This explains the ultimatum voiced by dmitry peskov, demanding that Ukraine withdraw its troops from Donbas. It resembles a ‘last-resort’ ultimatum: as if they expect us to actually retreat. But this will not happen. The President’s position is very clear, and the position of our society is also very clear: we will not leave Donbas,” the politician emphasized.
He added that Ukraine successfully endured the winter’s massive strikes on energy infrastructure, and therefore will continue to withstand further attacks.
“Right now, the russians continue the same terror we experienced during the winter’s mass strikes. However, they have failed to break us, neither our will nor our energy system. We will endure everything, no one is giving up Donbas, and we will win. That is certain,” concluded the parliamentarian.
