This was stated by Yehor Cherniev, a member of the «Servant of the People» faction, deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, and head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
«Many processes are indeed being launched in the European Union, although they are not very fast yet. However, the bureaucratic machine that operated until 2022 is no longer there. Europeans are moving from moral and ethical to pragmatic assistance to Ukraine, of course, based on their own interests and threats. Therefore, financial assistance to Ukraine is increasing, and in addition, partners are ready to invest in our defence-industrial complex. In particular, 19 of the 27 countries of the European Union are ready to finance joint production with Ukraine. This is a very good indicator for us,» noted the politician.
He also commented on the statement by Radosław Sikorski, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, that russia’s aggression against NATO’s eastern flank countries would cost these states at least €1.2 trillion.
«I think that in the event of direct aggression by the russian federation, the financial losses of NATO countries will be much greater than €1.2 trillion, because we must also add capital outflow, labour outflow, economic stagnation and the fall of the euro. All this, in my opinion, will affect not only Poland or the countries that will be attacked, but also other EU member states. This “wave” will definitely reach Portugal, sweeping across the entire European Union. Therefore, it is really easier, more economically advantageous and safer for our partners to finance us in order to stop the russian federation here,» the MP stressed.
