Representatives of the European Commission (DG ENEST, TRADE and FISMA) together with EU Delegation to Ukraine held a meeting with Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Hetmantsev. The parties discussed the text of Draft Law on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine aimed at ensuring compliance with European Union law and the relevant criteria established by the European Payments Council, with a view to Ukraine’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) (№ 14327).
Representatives of the European Commission expressed their expectation that the draft law would be brought into line with the EU acquis in the field of anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).
The European Commission underscored the importance of the timely adoption of the SEPA draft law, noting that it represents a further step within the rule of law roadmap, an important milestone in Ukraine’s accession to the EU, a strengthening of safeguards in the fight against money laundering, as well as a tangible improvement for citizens and businesses. The Commission provided a set of technical comments to ensure the draft law’s compliance with current Ukrainian legislation.
«The implementation of the relevant act following its adoption will significantly reduce the cost and speed up international payments for both businesses and individuals. The implementation of EU standards is an unconditional prerequisite for Ukraine’s EU membership. Therefore, we will not delay consideration of the draft law,» stressed Committee Chair Danylo Hetmantsev.
