Ukraine has received its highest ratings in three years for reforms on the path to European integration. These ratings reflect progress in meeting the criteria for EU membership and confirm that Europe is our civilisational choice. There is complete consensus among politicians, authorities and the people of Ukraine on the issue of European integration.
This was stated by Arseniy Pushkarenko, Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation.
«In a very short period of time, we have gone from submitting an application to becoming a candidate for EU membership, and now we are waiting for the start of negotiations on accession to the European Union. Behind this lies a tremendous amount of work, which has been duly appreciated. Already, about four thousand legislative and subordinate acts have been adopted as part of the process of bringing our legislation closer to European standards. At the same time, there are still mandatory step-by-step reforms that the European Commission and members of the European Union expect from us, and we are gradually implementing these recommendations,» the politician noted.
According to him, one of the most important areas of reform in Ukraine concerns the rule of law.
«I believe that our judicial system needs very serious reforms. Perhaps this is the least reformed branch of government and area today. Of course, we will move in this direction. In general, the negotiations with the EU will involve difficult decisions and the transformation of entire sectors of our economy, including energy, agriculture, and others. But we will have to make these decisions and follow this path if we truly want to live not by declarations, but by advanced European standards,» the MP concluded.
