The Bill (Reg. No.2297) was adopted by The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at the First Reading on 20.05.2008. The Bill coordinates national legislation in the sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary sectors with the regulations of the WTO agreement on conduct of sanitary and phytosanitary actions, and the EU legislation.

The Bill excludes a number of definitions and phrases from the Law "On Fish, other Water Living Resources and Food Produce", namely: definition of the term "food production lot" (Article 1), and the phrases "conformance certificate or certificate of foreign certificate recognition in Ukraine (for imported production)" and "conformance certificate or certificate of foreign certificate recognition" (Articles 8 and 10).

M.Prysiazhniuk, Committee Chairman, stated that the said motion "opens the borders for the imported production without due control of its quality". Moreover, Ukraine has not introduced any standard of the WTO yet.

Moreover, the Ministry of Health has no relevant experts and laboratories to perform due analysis of the imported production.

The Committee members believe that the said amendments are inopportune.
