At the meeting it was stated that adoption of the Bill (Reg. No. 0006) aims at implementation of international standards concerning obligatory hours of work and rest periods of drivers in transit sector in the National legislation of Ukraine, coordination of Ukrainian transport legislation with legislation of the European Union, and enhancement of traffic safety by means of control over keeping hours of work and rest periods of drivers in road transport.
Inter alia, pursuant to the Convention, no driver is allowed to steer a vehicle without a break for more than four hours, and highest possible duration of driving can not exceed nine hours a day or forty-eight hours a week. Moreover, every driver who works for hire has a right of break after incessant work for five hours, and daily rest period of drivers can not be less than ten hours on end.
The Committee members believe that ratification of the Convention will improve social protection conditions of automobile transport personnel and settle urgent issues of regulating current problems in this field.
