On Monday, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olexander Moroz held talks with the Chairmen of the 'Children of the War' regional organisations.

Opening the talks, O.Moroz stated that Coalition and the Government should "meet the needs of this group of population." However, some political forces that failed to execute the Law "On Social Protection of the Children of War", adopted in 2004, within the period of their authority, want to exploit "the children of war" during the pre-election campaign to receive political dividends.

During the negotiations the participants drew attention to the issues of pension provision of this category of population, elimination of disproportions in the pension rate, reduced fare in passenger transport, purchase of medicine and payment for energy sources at a reduced price. They also proposed to develop a program of medical treatment of "the children of war" regarding veterans of the Great Patriotic War and to create a parliamentary commission on their matters.

The issue of payment of depreciated savings was also discussed at the negotiations.

Summing up, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine suggested considering the issue of adopting, pursuant to the Law, "the schedule for satisfying the needs of "the children of war" on the plenary meeting on 4 September. He stated that "it is necessary to achieve the aim, envisaged by the Law, so that people will know that the State is creating conditions for satisfying the needs of "the children of war"".
