The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine O. Moroz believes that should The President of Ukraine and the present Opposition fail to achieve 'the result they need' at the early Parliamentary election, 'they will hold another election..'
O. Moroz made this comment in the Kulish Drama Theatre on Thursday, whilst meeting Kherson citizens as part of his working visit. At the same time, he was convinced that ‘people will fail to take part in this other election'.
O. Moroz assured the audience, that the current election campaign would reach a successful conclusion, and that the current Coalition, working in the Parliament of the 5th Convocation, will be preserved. In support this declaration, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted, that the Leader of the State, in his speeches, reports on satisfying progress in Ukraine, but 'he only forgets to mention that this progress is made notwithstanding resistance by the opposition´.
‘After all´, he stressed, ‘The President is only interested in one thing: an amended Constitution conferring the status of ‘Tsar´ on himself, thus allowing the President, and only the President, to appoint all key officials within the State, including the Ministries of Defence, Internal Affairs and Security.
O. Moroz criticized the National Security and Defence Council for taking over functions, foreign to this structure, such as the dismissal of Ministers.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the audience to take a sober-minded view of the election: ‘the current struggle is not just about the attitude towards the powers, but also about access to the gas supply, VAT control, etc. O. Moroz also emphasized on the President´s team´s efforts in exerting pressure on the Judicial Branch. ‘They will demand a declaration that the election is not recognized due to a very low poll count,´ said O. Moroz, and added that to this end ‘The President is currently establishing his control over the Judicial system´.
O. Moroz presented Awards and Decorations of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to several Khersonians.
This meeting between O. Moroz and the locals was held in total darkness. The platform from which he spoke was lit only by candles with a few low intensity lamps. Electricity was only restored fifteen minutes before the end of the meeting. According to the Theatre employees, the light in the room chosen for the meeting with the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine went out two hours before the beginning. No power failures were recorded, however, in any of the other rooms.
