The Speaker of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olexandr Moroz had a meeting with the OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut on Saturday, 7 July.

At the beginning of the meeting Mr de Brichambaut expressed gratitude for enormous work on preparation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Session. According to his words, the OSCE pays much attention to this event. "Kyiv became the OSCE capital on these days," said M. P. de Brichambaut.

"We discuss the general issues of European security in The Verkhovna Rada, which testifies the important role of Ukraine in this process," he emphasized.

On the request of Mr de Brichambaut, the Speaker of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reported on the current political situation in Ukraine. He emphasized the necessity of changing the European stereotype concerning Ukraine. He also emphasized "the importance of objective appraisal of the situation." The Speaker of The Verkhovna Rada was also worried about the possibility of holding the referendum on the adoption of new version of the Constitution in a way discordant to the Basic Law. "The legalization of dictatorship is the subject of the new Constitution."

He emphasized that the results of accroachment in Ukraine can be unexpected for democracy interests in the whole and for European security in particular. Therefore, the Speaker of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for "appraisal of the event before it takes place".

O. Moroz emphasized unconstitutional and illegal character of scheduled election, and criticized the actions of the President´s Institute that hampers the work of the Constitutional Court and Central Election Commission and interferes in the work of juridical system.

He also stated that the Head of the State does not sign the laws adopted by the Parliament, which violates the Constitution. "Falsification of the election results is being prepared", - emphasized O. Moroz. "I am worried that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is unaware of such egregious violations of democracy in Ukraine", - he said.

In his turn, Mr de Brichambaut expressed expectations that "Ukraine will cherish democratic values in respect to the Constitution in the nearest time."
