In the negotiations that have been in progress on 2-4 July 2007, the Ukrainian party is represented by Volodymyr Vecherko, Acting Chairman of the European Integration Committee.

Three working groups take part in the negotiations, namely: "Political dialogue and cooperation in the fields of foreign policy and security policy", "Freedom, security and justice", "Economical and sectional cooperation".

The Parties arranged that after the third round of negotiations the EU representatives sent to the Ukrainian delegation the consolidated text on political dialogue, foreign policy and security policy, in which they took into account the results achieved by mutual concession during the meeting of the working group on the 23 May 2007. This document forms the basis of the negotiations at the Fourth Round.

According to V. Vecherko, the aim of the new treaty is not merely the establishment of cooperation between the Parties in the political dialogue, reforms, foreign and security policies, but also a continuing mutual approach on the purpose of further involvement of Ukraine into European security environment.
