The author registered the Bill on amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the Administrative Code of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The Bill (Reg. No. 4006) introduces amendments to those articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine which envisage amenability for the crimes committed against intellectual property. The Bill also aims at coordinating the sanctions determined by these articles with the ones, established for the crimes committed against property.
The main challenge is to implement adequate criminal and legal and administrative and legal protection of the intellectual property right, which will prevent any infringement on the results of person´s creative activity in the future.
The author of the Bill deems necessary to adopt this law, since Ukrainian legislation has not provided due protection of the intellectual property right for a long time. Striving for full membership in the WTO, Ukraine signed the TRIPS Agreement (agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights) which envisages reforming national legislation in the field of intellectual property protection.
The Bill was worked out to coordinate Ukrainian legislation in the field of intellectual property protection with legislation of European countries.
