Provocateurs, who created a picture for Russian propaganda by attacking the Parliament, should be liable to the law and should be condemned by the society. Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said this in his comment.

According to him, today, during the final session day, the Parliament has adopted a lot of important decisions and laws. Particularly, a new Defence Minister was appointed “on the day that since today has become an official day of Ukrainian army.”

“Apart from this, the law on the prosecutor’s office was adopted that ended the stalin-brezhniev repressive sockdolager which the prosecutor’s office was until today,” said Oleksandr Turchynov, explaining that this law has opened the way to democratization of main institution of the law-enforcement structures.

Apart from this, he noted, the following laws were adopted: on the anti-corruption bureau, on the principles of state anti-corruption policy, on corruption prevention, on determining ultimate beneficiaries of legal persons and on counteraction to legalization (laundering) of the proceeds from crime.

According to the Chairperson of the Parliament, the decision on strengthening responsibility for violating citizens’ electoral rights is of extreme importance. “From now on, those guilty of election fraud and bribery will bear strict criminal responsibility,” he stressed, emphasizing that despite everything, lots of decisions necessary for the society remain unadopted.

Oleksandr Turchynov explained that these are the issues on protection of deposits of natural persons in the banking sector; securing transparency of electoral process organization; as well as amendments to the budget, particularly in the part of social protection of the disabled, veterans and ATO participants; the issues pertaining to energy security; ratification of interstate agreements; the law that simplifies the procedure of coming into inheritance; the block of issues on maintaining programmes on HIV and AIDS counteraction; the issue of switching to the EU technical rules of procedure; and on volunteer activity and lots of other laws.

“These issues were not considered due to the provocative actions of young people near the building of the Verkhovna Rada,” noted Oleksandr Turchynov.

“Unfortunately, despite of my yesterday’s appeal regarding preparation of provocations around Verkhovna Rada, they were held,” said Oleksandr Turchynov, adding that stones were thrown at law-enforcers and an attempt was made to attack the building of the Parliament using explosives.

Chairperson of the Parliament stressed that such actions disrupted further work of the Verkhovna Rada and adoption of the laws necessary for the country. “Russian propaganda instead received another “picture” humiliating the Ukrainian state,” he added.

“Provocateurs hoped to receive political dividends during the electoral campaign, however, I am convinced, they should be condemned by the society and bear responsible for their actions to the law,” summed Oleksandr Turchynov.
