Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with Prime-Minister of Canada Stephen Harper.

In the course of the meeting, the Parties stressed that Ukraine and Canada are united by “especially warm and friendly relations, since the Ukrainian Diaspora amounts to more than one million of Ukrainians.” Apart from this, the Partiers discussed current developments in Ukraine.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, having no arguments, the Russian Federation has occupied Crimea, which is a part of sovereign Ukrainian territory. “Today we do everything possible to settle this problem by peaceful means,” he said, stressing that our country needs not only moral, but real military and technical assistance on the part of our strategic partners and guarantors of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Oleksandr Turchynov stressed also that today confrontation between Ukraine and Russia “is not a problem of merely Ukraine, this is a challenge to the whole civilized world.” “With his actions, Putin places in question the whole system of international security. This is an attempt to change the world order by creating a new one with the governance of aggression and weapons speak,” noted the Chairman of the Parliament. He underlined that despite of international reaction, Ukrainians are ready to protect their country.

In his turn, Stephen Harper stressed that Russian actions in Crimea are extremely dangerous. “Developments in Crimea are violation of the Constitution, territorial integrity and sovereignty of an independent state,” he said, adding that the referendum held on the peninsula “is merely a disguise of Russian occupation of Crimea.”

Apart from this, Canadian Prime-Minister stressed that Russian aggression in Crimea is the reason for serious reaction of the entire international community. “There can be no normal relations with Putin’s regime, as long as Crimea remains unlawfully occupied,” he said, adding that these issues should be discussed in the nearest time during the G7 meeting.
