On Monday a meeting between Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov and Prime-Minister of Republic of Moldova Iurie Leanca was held.

Parties discussed the issue on cooperation between the countries, governments and parliaments regarding moving towards the European integration. Moreover, present situation on the Crimean peninsula was discussed.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, what is happening now in Crimea “is nothing else but unmotivated Russian aggression which has no explanation – neither legal nor moral.”

“A false referendum would not have been held without Russian aggression and presence of its troops,” he said, stressing that “the false performance” which was staged on the territory of peninsula is illegitimate, and this was confirmed both by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and by the Venice Commission in their opinions.

“There are no Crimean citizens on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, there are citizens of Ukraine, representatives of different nationalities, interests of which we can ensure,” said Oleksandr Turchynov.

“Despite anything, we keep moving in the direction to the EU,” noted Chairman of the Parliament. He expressed hope that jointly with the assistance of our strategic partners Ukraine will manage to settle all Crimean issues.

In his turn, the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leanca claimed that his state will never recognize results of the “false referendum in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea that was held following the analogous Transnistria scenario.”

Apart from this, Iurie Leanca stressed Moldova’s readiness to strengthen political dialogue with Ukraine. “We are ready to take all necessary joint actions to ensure safety in the region,” he added.
