Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov supported the initiative of forming “Council of national confidence”

On Thursday Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov met with representatives of the First December Initiative Group – the Honorary President of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Viacheslav Briukhovetskyi and professor Myroslav Popovych.    

Representatives of the initiative group claimed their support to the new government and suggested form “Council of national confidence.” “Consisting of 25 authoritative in our country people, such Council could monitor and inform about the Government’s work, since people want to see that the government works for them,” said V. Briukhovetskyi.   

Oleksandr Turchynov supported this initiative, stressing that “Council of national confidence” should become “a tuning fork for all politicians of Ukraine.”  

The Chairman of the Parliament said that “the point of view of the civil society is of extreme importance” for restoring regular functioning of the country.  

He stressed that the country will always protect rights of its people “no matter what language they speak, no matter where they live, and no matter what church they go to.”

A possibility of approving the National Act of Freedom in the Parliament, suggested by the First December Initiative Group, was discussed during the meeting.   

In the words of V. Briukhovetskyi, the document, which was elaborated by a great number of experts, political scientists, legal experts, and demographers, determines the priority changes in the country, first and foremost tasks of European integration, as well as new mechanisms of society’s control over the government.
