The Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law “On amendments to article 263-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in connection with Ukraine’s accession to the Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition, supplementing United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime”

The Law suggests a new version of the title and part 1 of article IX of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Crimes against public safety”. It also suggests establishing criminal responsibility not only for manufacturing, processing, or repair of firearms, but also for counterfeiting, illegal removal or change of marking.  

Under the Law, “illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, or counterfeiting, illegal removal or change of marking, or illicit manufacturing of ammunition, explosives or explosive devices

entails a custodial sentence form three to seven years”.

The respective bill was registered under No. 1263.
